Frustrated with long lead times and quality inconsistencies, a cooler and freezer door manufacturer turned to Budnick. They were previously buying foam from China and the long lead times were affecting production output. The foam gaskets were also allowing far too much cold air to escape from the cooler doors. This causes the cooler to work harder and faster to meet temperature, which lead to additional concerns about the risk of damaging other cooler components.
The Budnick Solution
Various thicknesses were tried and tested before settling on a ¼’’ thick polyurethane/polyester foam. An unsupported LSE acrylic adhesive is then laminated to one side of the foam. Finally, the foam is slit down to 5/8’’wide rolls.
Product Enhancement & Increased Production
The new polyurethane/polyester foam gaskets have proven to be much more effective, with some of the retail locations who use the doors having reported seeing a decrease in energy costs. Having a US based supplier has vastly cut lead times and eliminated any production stoppages.
